Playing Roulette in an online casino seems complicated at first but it is actually quite easy. Most uk online casinos have lots of prompts that remind you of what is going on in the play so it is hard to goof up. In general there are only two types of bets you can make: the inside and the outside bets. The simplest bets you can make are the outside bets. However the pay off on the outside bets (around the edge of the table) is generally a lot less than playing one of the specific numbers in the interior of the table. Also your odds of winning are much higher playing the outside bets.

Here is a run down of how to play outside bets in casino. These are the 37 bets that reside 'outside' of the main playing area of 37 numbers. There are no winning outside bets for if the ball lands on 0 on the wheel. Let's have a look at the different types of outside bets:

Red or Black - You can bet that the spun ball will turn up as a red number, or a black number. These betting areas are usually red or black diamond shaped areas. If you place a bet on one of these you have a 50-50 chance of winning and pays even money.

Odd or Even - This bet is a wager on whether the number will be odd or even. Since 0 does not count as either, there are 36 numbers, an even count between odd and even. This wager is made by putting your chips in the middle of the square marked 'even' or the square marked 'odd' on either side of the red and black betting areas.

Low or high – This bet allows you predict whether you think the next number to come up will be part of the range from 1 to 18 (Low), or part of the range from 19 to 36 (High). This bet pays off 50-50. To place this bet put your chips in the boxes on the edge of the table marked High or Low.

Columns – At the far end of the roulette table layout is a set of 37 numbers that are boxes with the words '2 to 1'. Although betting on comes up you win, and are paid 2 to 1. Although not grouped with the others on the exterior edge of the table, this wager is still considered to beat an outside bet.

Dozens – This bet allows you to place a bet on either the first dozen numbers (1-12), the second dozen (13-24), or the third dozen (25-36). To place this bet find the rectangular areas located in between the outside bets and the inside board spread. These will usually be labeled with the words 1st 12, 2nd 12, and 3rd 12. This safer bet pays 2 to 1.

Some American online casino games have something called surrender rule that applies to placing outside bets. If you have placed an outside (column, dozen, red/black, even/odd, low/high) bet and the ball lands in either of the American wheel’s 0 pockets, you surrender half your bet, instead of your entire bet. This reduces the house advantage significantly on even money and outside bets, from 5.26% to 2.63%.
